My new coursework Project is to create a music magazine. I have decided to a magazine with the music genre indie/alternative because it is the music i like best and listen to the most. Some magazines that already have this genre are such mags as "NME" and "kerrang!".
First i am going to look at what target audiences these magazines are for and then create a typical reader profile.

NME
Age: 17-30
Music they like: Indie/Alternative
Gender: Men
Frequency of buying the mag: weekly
25000 people in middle class or higher read this magazine.
13700 people in working class read this magazine.
29600 men read the magazine
91000 women read this magazine.
Interests: going to parties and gigs

Kerrang!
23900 people in middle class or higher read this magazine.
17800 people in working class read this magazine.
29000 men read this magazine.
12700 women read this magazine.
Music they like: Indie/Alternative/rock
Gender: both
Frequency of buying the mag: weekly
Interests: gigs and drinking.

Therefore my target audience for my music magazine will be mixed genders but aimed towards men mostly. They will be into new and modern bands that have the genre of indie /alternative or rock. The age of my audience will be around the ages of 17-30 years old. Lifestyle of these readers would be anything from working class to higher class but i would think that mostly only working class-middle class would buy this magazine. I think this because higher class people are into more "civilized" genres of music. They would earn a fair amount of money and would have some spare for gigs etc. The target audience will have a good style of clothing and it would be very modern. Most of them will live in a family home or a flat with mates. Also, they will be a mixture of individualists and Aspirer's, however some will be "good-timers" in which they will love to party/go to gigs and drink. I think they will be in the sections called C2 and D manly as these people are middle class-lower class. Also, most of them would be "good-timers" as the magazine lets people knows about gigs and festivals going on around Britian. Therefore readers are the sort of people who like to go and see lots of bands etc around the world and like to travel. They also like partying/festivals and gigs. Another word that could described as YAKS. these are people who are single, out-going, young, adventous and keen. Target audiences are important because without knowing what target audience you are setting, the advertising/magazine would find it very difficult and expensice to sell as they have to cater for so so so many different sorts of people. Knowing and finding a target audience is one of the most important stages in the market.

Photos for college magazine

This is my main photo on my front page, it is a photo of me that i took on my webcam just before the Freshers Party. I decided to use this photo because the main story is all about the Freshers Party. The anchor and stripy top puts all the theme together.

One of my pages in my magazine is all about the Art and Photography students new work. So i put this photo up that i took of a sunset on holiday.
